Online vs. In-person

During this pandemic, many of us have been unable to take the GED exams. But, recently GED has offered an online version of their test. Unfortunately, there are quite of few differences when taking the Mathematics Reasoning exam online. A few of those differences include:

  • No physical calculator is permitted
  • No scrap paper is permitted
  • No physical formula sheet
  • No physical whiteboard is permitted
  • “Big Brother” is watching

This is a far cry from the norm. The online whiteboard, along with mouse, for many, maybe a source of frustration. Having to open/close the formula sheet and calculator make take more time than usual and may cause anxiety. Therefore, practice, practice and more practice especially with the calculator. Using the calculator will decrease your time on task and improve your accuracy. The GED Math in 30 Days eBook combined with the use of the calculator will reduce your frustration tremendously.

Practice using the PearsonVue whiteboard.

How the Online GED Test Works

  • First, one needs to perform a system test to make sure your computer, webcam and internet connection meet the requirements for testing online.
  • After verifying a system check, you can schedule your online test within 60 days of scoring ‘green’ or “Likely To Pass” on a GED Ready practice test.
  • On test day, log in to GED.com 30 minutes before your test appointment to launch your test.
  • Follow the on-screen steps to check-in for your test including verifying your system, I.D. and workspace.
  • Take your test while an online proctor monitors you just like they do at a test center.

Note: You MUST have a VALID ID in order to be administered the exam.

There are so many technical technicalities . If anyone is like me I talk out loud to myself when I’m thinking that can be taken as cheating and then your test is cut off.
